Veterinarian, two centuries of a life. This is how Michel Rajaut, a retired veterinarian, titled his latest book. On 360 pages, this autobiographical book retraces a life course in the service of science and animals. It turns out to be a wonderful testimony to the profession of veterinarian and the upheavals experienced by our society and our planet.
Michel Rajaut began his career fifty years ago, at a time when animals were little or poorly considered and when animal surgery was hesitant and unformal.
His feeling about a life straddling two centuries
“I knew the beginnings and then the advent of our companions with a real pet status and the first legislative protection measures attached to it”underlines the writer.
Veterinarian, two centuries of a life was born thanks to the enlightened look of a man of science in the broad sense, passionate about photography, fauna and flora.
From his early childhood to the present day, an endearing inventory à la Prévert where the story of a life and relevant reflections mingle.
“I wanted to pass on to my children and my grandchildren especially, my experience on the evolution and the necessary adaptation of research, innovations in operative surgery and its trial and error from the beginning, but also of the different professions of the veterinarian relating to new technologies for radiography, care and medication”, says Michel Rajaut. And to continue: “All these paths are located in time by a historical grid of current events and highlights that I have been able to experience personally.”
After three photo books(1) devoted to birds, cicadas and other “critters” from his garden, Michel Rajaut recounts here his journey, his analyses, his experiences and his feelings about a life straddling two centuries.
