The French Prime Minister, the conservative Michel Barnierannounced this Thursday that it will present the president of France, Emmanuel Macrona government team whose priorities will be to improve purchasing power and public services and control immigration.

This was announced in a statement by the head of government, just before the start of the meeting at the Elysée (scheduled for 17:00 GMT) between the two main representatives of the State. In France, it is the responsibility of the President of the Republic to appoint ministers, at the initiative of the Prime Minister.

Barnier’s government will also prioritize security, the attraction of the French economy, control of public debt and the reduction of ecological debt.

According to media reports, a government with 16 ministers is being prepared, most of them from the presidential party Renacimiento and its centrist allies, despite the fact that in the legislative elections of July they went from being the first to the second parliamentary force.

Three portfolios would be filled by the conservative Republicans, the party to which Barnier belongs and which is a very small minority in the French National Assembly.

In principle, there will be no ministers from the left-wing front, which achieved a narrow majority in the Assembly, with 182 seats, nor from the extreme right of Marine Le Penwhich clearly won in percentage of votes (33%, 10.6 million voters), but remained the third force in number of parliamentarians due to the peculiar French electoral system with two rounds.
