“57 human lives that were lost, 57 families and the majority of the Greek people are looking for the truth and the rendering of justice for the tragic accident in Tempe” emphasized the Parliamentary Representative of PaSoK, Michalis Katrinis, speaking in the Parliament.
Mr. Katrinis emphasized that “the government, as in all cases for which responsibilities arise for it, adopts the tactic of cover-up in a cynical and overt manner. We saw it with the tragic accident in Tempe and we will certainly see it again in whatever else arises in the future.”
He pointed out that the House Committee of Inquiry was established not to find out the truth, but to spread a veil of concealment of the responsibilities that exist for the safety of the railway network. He emphasized that those who refused the establishment of a pre-investigation committee, which is a proposal of the PASOK, for the tragic accident in Tempe, must do their own self-criticism. “An investigation that closed its work with summary procedures and left in the dark, all those whose involvement would disturb the government.
First of all the then Minister of Transport, a hostage of Maximos who exchanges his silence and support for the Prime Minister with his protection. The Hellenic Train, which no one cares about. We have reached the point where the managing director of Hellenic Train does not accept any responsibility of the company for the accident. They were followed by Messrs. Triandopoulos and Agorastos, who set up the scene of the accident. Mr. Agorastos, who refused to testify at the inquest, could tell us who gave him the order for the bottling. And of course, Mr. Triandopoulos was never called to the examination room.”
The PASOK parliamentary representative highlighted issues such as:
1st – The 2022 contract, in which the government released Hellenic Train from its obligations for the safety of the railway network.
2nd – The non-operation of the remote control system
3rd – The alteration, not to say the burying, of evidence about the accident with the tank.
He also referred to the opinion of the independent expert appointed by the families of the victims, which speaks of the existence of explosive substances, as it emerged from the analysis by the State General Chemistry of personal belongings of some victims.
Mr. Katrinis closed his speech, emphasizing: “The shock and the violation of the principles of the rule of law in Greece are now facts that cannot be hidden. They are now the subject of debate across Europe. PaSoK will continue, unwaveringly, to insist on revealing the truth. It will continue to raise questions and expose the government’s cover-up practices.”
