Michał Urbaniak, a legend of world jazz, spoke on Dzień Dobry TVN about his life and musical experiences. The artist, together with his wife Dorota Urbaniak, shared his thoughts about music, love and life. In the conversation, he revealed how he feels after undergoing a pharmacological coma.
Michał Urbaniak. Music is the whole life
Michał Urbaniak, recognized worldwide as a master of the violin and saxophone, reveals that music is an inseparable element of his life. The artist claims that improvisation, a key element of jazz, is not only a musical technique but also a way of life. His passion for music is so strong that he can neglect other duties, although he always tries to avoid it.
– Michał lives on a full blast. That is – he lived and lives. This is a quote from a classic by priest Kaczkowski. But I think that jazzmen in general have some kind of feeling for the blast, which is usually improvisation. So they also translate improvisation from the stage, which is their domain, into improvisation in life – said Dorota.
– When I was 15, I was already planning. No dog, no wife, no family, nothing at the beginning. I knew I would travel. I just didn’t know that it would be my whole life. (…) music takes up everything. Speaking of music, there’s also traveland travel is part of music. Today it is even more so, because today you have to be a film editor. A specialist in social. You have to be an internet user, and because I am an Aquarius, I am interested in all of this. When I get into it so well, there was no time to sleep – added Michał Urbaniak.
Coma after surgery
One of the most difficult moments in Urbaniak’s life was an unexpected coma Pharmacologicalwhich he underwent after the operation. During it, he dreamed very intensely – he was convinced that he had gone on a trip to Chechnya and was in contact with Vladimir Putin.
Despite the difficulties, he returned to his passion, learning to play the saxophone again and planning concerts. – I have already started playing. I have been writing music for some time. The worst thing was that I simply lay there for 5 months. It was horrible and I didn’t believe that I would be able to walk – said the artist.
– You know, I think that diseases are really for something. To slow down and I think that what happened to Michał actually happened to us, because those were also very difficult moments for me. By the way, there was book launchand Michał was in the hospital and was in a different world – added the musician’s wife.
