This win boosted Smith’s hopes of qualifying for the Premier League playoffs at O2 Arena on May 25. Smith had booked his place in the final after a 6-1 win over Chris Dobey in the quarter-finals followed by a 6-2 victory against Peter Wright in the semis. Price, who had already secured four nightly triumphs in this year’s Premier League, could not stop Smith’s momentum and went down 6-4 in a high-octane match. The win took world champion Smith third in the table with three nights remaining before the play-offs while Price remained four points clear at the top.
