Michael Schumacher’s furious wife lashes out at Williams boss to defend son

Tragedy was brewing at the Monza Grand Prix last weekend, where Franco Calapinto debuted in 12th place. There was a big scene between Corinna Schumacherwife of the all-powerful Michael Schumacher, and the head of the Williams family, named James Vowles. Watch out, there’s a fight coming.

As Chris Medland has explained in his article for ‘Motorsport Magazine’, the discussion originated when Vowles preferred Colapinto as a replacement for Logan Sargeant instead of Mick Schumacherson of the world champion. A decision that he himself defended, arguing that Mick fell into the category of “good” but “not special” drivers:

“Mick has improved a lot since his time at Haas, that’s undeniable. He’s a competent driver and has done an incredible job in the simulators for Alpine, Mercedes and McLaren. However, in assessing our options, we feel that both Mick and Sargeant fall into the category of ‘good, but not special’“And that is something we must honestly acknowledge,” Vowles said.

As Medland wrote in his post, the Williams boss’s speech made Corinna angry, who did not hesitate to approach the team’s paddock to ask for explanations. Vowles, for his part, tried justify oneself claiming that his statements had been misinterpreted and that he had only said that his son’s work was not comparable to that of figures such as Ayrton Senna. An explanation that was not accepted by the driver’s mother and which, according to the aforementioned journalist, unleashed a scene of maximum tension in the place.

Besides, Ralf Schumacherwho announced last July that she was in a relationship with a man, also questioned the team’s choice to go with the Argentine and not his nephew. In this case, Williams responded by warning that “it has always invested in the new generation of drivers and in youth, and what I have been talking about all the time is the investment in the future of Williams. When you invest that amount of money in the academy, you have to put your actions where your mouth is,” was Vowles’ response to ‘Reuters’.
