GRENOBLE – The legendary German Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher won the world championship seven times. He was the champion in the years 1994 to 1995 and 2000 to 2004.
As a pilot, he became famous for his uncompromising driving style, in which he did not hesitate to go beyond the rules. On December 29, 2013, he was seriously injured while skiing in Méribel, France, and has not appeared in public since then.
His health condition is not publicly known. Schumacher’s descent from an unprepared slope was fatal. The seven-time world champion went outside the marked track to help his friend’s daughter, but he himself tripped over a stone hidden under the snow and then hit his head on another boulder. Despite the fact that he was wearing a helmet and was not going fast at the time of the fall, the consequences of the accident were very serious.
Two brain surgeries
After being airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble, Schumacher had to undergo two brain surgeries, and was also kept in artificial sleep from the beginning. In June 2014, he was transferred from France to Switzerland for home treatment near Lake Geneva. According to media reports, he was already awake.
In September 2019, French newspaper Le Parisien reported that Schumacher was transferred to the Georges Pompidou European Hospital in Paris, where he was placed under the care of Professor Philippe Menasch, who specializes in stem cell research.

Since his accident, Schumacher’s family has given minimal information about his health. However, in 2021, his wife Corinna Schumacher said in a Netflix documentary that her husband was at home and continuing therapy.
“Privacy is privacy, as he always said. It’s very important to me that he can enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael has always protected us and now we’re protecting Michael.” quoted her statements from a CNN documentary.
