Michael Schachermayr (born December 2, 1994) is an Austrian American football player at the position of wide receiver.
Schachermayr started playing American football with the Graz Giants in 2016 while studying at the Medical University of Graz. In his debut season, he won the international CEFL Bowl with the Giants. For the 2018 season of the Austrian Football League (AFL), he moved to the Steelsharks Traun in his Upper Austrian homeland. In March 2021, Schachermayr was invited to a camp for the Austrian national team for the first time.[1]
With 1,363 receiving yards for nine touchdowns in ten AFL games, Schachermayr was not only a performer for the Sharks during the 2022 season, he also led the AFL in yards caught. He was then signed before the fifth week of the European League of Football (ELF) by the Vienna Vikings head coach Chris Calaycay.[2] In the home game against the Barcelona Dragons, he scored his first touchdown in the ELF. With the Vikings he reached the final in Klagenfurt, which was won against the Hamburg Sea Devils with 27:15. In October 2022, Schachermayr represented Austria in the group stage of the 2023 European Championship.[3] At the end of January 2023, the Vikings announced the extension with Schachermayr for another season.[4]
