Michael Owen told Premier League Productions during his live coverage of Tottenham’s win against Burnley on Sunday that he is “very surprised” that Gareth Bale is unable to complete 90 minutes of football.
After months and months of frustration and harsh love from José Mourinho, the Tottenham faithful are now beginning to feel nostalgic as Bale goes back in time.
It may not be the Bale who was sending a visiting finish into party mode when he scored a late winner at Upton Park many years ago, but it’s a glimpse of that possibility specialist.

Bale showed his old self over the weekend when he scored a double, the second in as many games, during Tottenham’s 4-1 win against Crystal Palace.
But since Bale has donned the Spurs colors once again, he has only completed 90 minutes on one occasion, and that was against Wycombe in the FA Cup.
Former Premier League striker Owen called the four-time Champions League winner one of the “fittest” and “strongest” players, but couldn’t understand why he can’t complete 90 minutes.
“He’s one of the strongest and fittest,” Owen said. What a great athlete he is. If you type a few things on a computer and say ‘bring a soccer player’, that’s exactly what comes out.
“Someone with his height, how thin, fast, and step he has. I mean he has the perfect shape for a footballer.
“He is in shape, he is in the best moment of his career. I’m very surprised that I can’t play the 90 minutes. He has barely played this season. Has a lot of energy.
“These managers will tell you that they need to rest when they really don’t. They rotate, it adapts to whatever narrative they want to interpret on the day.

Tottenham fans will not care one iota if Bale is still on the field to watch the fourth official set his board for injury time or not because if he is putting the ball in the back of the net then he is doing the right thing. enough.
That’s flowing, in the minute, and with Tottenham’s Europa League knockout game looming, including a certain showdown in North London, then he’s timing his return to form and fitness pretty perfectly.
