Michael Mann wants to develop a film adaptation of Heat 2, the novel sequel to the classic film Heat from 1995.
Heat 2, released in August 2022, became a New York Times #1 bestseller, and Deadline has claimed that Warner Bros. is negotiating with Mann to join the film adaptation.
In addition, New Regency, who financed the first film, will reportedly have the opportunity to help finance the project once it’s properly underway.
Adam Driver, who recently worked at Ferrari with Mann, is slated to play the young version of Neil McCauley in the sequel.
Heat 2 is written by Mann and Meg Gardiner, and follows two different time periods. The first follows Chris Shiherlis as he evades the LAPD and Det. Vincent Hanna after a failed bank robbery. The second, which will take audiences back to 1988, follows Neil McCauley and Shiherlis as they take on a series of locations along the West Coast while Hanna works her way up the Chicago PD.
