Michael Lonsdale, a representative of the Moonraker Bond villain Drax, has died

“He was an extremely talented actor and a very dear friend. Our thoughts are in this sad time with his family and friends, “said Bond Brokers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson in a statement.

Lonsdale came from the family of a British officer and a Frenchman. He lived in London until he was seven. Thanks to this, he was fluent in both French and English, which later allowed him to work not only in French filmmaking.

His path to acting was not the most direct. Initially he studied painting, he did not start attending acting courses until the 1950s. In the 1960s, he became an internationally acclaimed actor. He made a breakthrough in François Truffaut’s films, specifically The Bride Was in Black and Stolen Kisses.

Lonsdale then penetrated the mainstream of Anglo-American cinema. Viewers will remember him, for example, as an investigator who is on the trail of the killer Edward Fox in the film Jackal’s Day (1973). In 1979 came his probably most famous role – the character of Hugo Drax in the Bond song Moonraker. The famous agent 007 was played in this work by Roger Moor.

The actor who won the Caesar appeared in a total of 180 films, including the famous film In the Name of the Rose.
