“This is an important moment for New York. This season we are proud to support our city and our industry during Fashion Week. I am delighted that physical catwalks are making a comeback in New York this fall, and I I look forward to presenting my collection to the public, “says Michael Kors, who is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his house this year.
So far, several brands – Tory Burch, Jeremy Scott, Thom Browne, Pyer Moss, Gabriela Hearst, Markarian and Jonathan Simkhai – have confirmed their intention to be on the official Council of Fashion Designers of America calendar. But a few heavyweights, including Ralph Lauren, have still not validated their participation in the event.
A dozen designers – Telfar, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Altuzarra, Brandon Maxwell, Prabal Gurung, Sergio Hudson, Monse, Jason Wu, LaQuan Smith and Markarian – have joined forces with IMG and its “Fashion Alliance” initiative, committing to parade as part of the event “NYFW: The Shows” for the next three seasons.
Michael Kors’ latest collection was a “Broadway Love Letter”, unveiled as a video presentation shot on April 20 at the Shubert Theater, with a live performance by Rufus Wainwright and high-profile guests like Bette Midler, Cynthia Nixon, Bernadette Peters, Rosario Dawson, Alan Cummings, Billy Porter, Chita Rivera, Matt Bomer and Marisa Tomei.
Michael Kors, one of the few billionaires in fashion, launched her brand in 1981. Today she is part of the stable of the Capri Group, which also controls Versace and Jimmy Choo.
