Werder Bremen becomes German football champion, and Steffi Graf wins all four tennis grand slam tournaments of the year. The U&D is taking place for the first time in Würzburg, Suhl in Thuringia becomes the official twin town, and the volunteer fire brigade is founded in the Lengfeld district.
