Michael J. Fox Receives Standing Ovation at BAFTAs Despite Parkinson’s Disease

Michael J. Fox received a standing ovation from his colleagues during the BAFTAs, the most important British film awards, on Sunday. The 62-year-old actor has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for thirty years.

Of Back to the Futureactor was allowed to present the award for best film and was wheeled onto the stage in a wheelchair. The audience responded with loud applause.

Earlier in the evening, the actor, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, walked the red carpet. He did this with the help of his wife Tracy Pollan.

Fox itself was also in the running for an award. His documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Story had a chance in the best documentary category, but lost to 20 Days in Mariupol.
