This collaboration not only showcases his commitment to firefighting but also highlights the ongoing digital transformation in charitable activities. With a dedication to aiding those in crisis, Galanos exemplifies why this year’s calendar is more than just a collection of photographs—it’s a beacon of hope.
A Philanthropic Partnership
This year, the Australian Firefighters Calendar has partnered with Greater Good Charities to provide immediate aid to American citizens and animals impacted by the recent hurricanes. The collaboration aims to deliver critical resources, including food, shelter, and medical assistance, to those who have suffered from the disasters.
Reflecting on the importance of this aid, Galanos stated, “The calendar is able to support so many charities, which is amazing. We’ve donated over $3 million over the last 30 years.” He specifically highlighted the recent contributions towards the cleanup efforts following Hurricane Helene. “This was particularly important to me as a firefighter, as my state was devastated by bushfires just a couple of years ago,” he added. “During that crisis, U.S. citizens donated millions to support us. It’s time to show our support back to you.”
The 2025 Australian Firefighters Calendar
Galanos expressed immense pride in being part of the 2025 Australian Firefighters Calendar. “It’s always an honor to be asked to be a part of it. This was my second year, and I hope to be back again next year!” he remarked. The calendar not only showcases the heroic work of firefighters but also serves as a vital income stream for numerous charities across Australia and beyond.
Life as a Firefighter
As an experienced firefighter with eight years on the job, Galanos shared his passion for his work. “I love so much about it—helping people, the adrenaline rush from the jobs, and working with my best mates!” On what fuels his commitment to the profession, he stated, “What motivates me as a firefighter is the fact that we are there to help people who often can’t help themselves. It gives purpose to my job and purpose to my life.”
Galanos highlighted poignant career moments, recognizing the shift in perspective that comes from responding to emergency calls over the years. “I wouldn’t say one particular moment stands out. After eight years in this field, I’ve realized how precious life is and how quickly things can change. It’s crazy and scary, mate!”
Embracing the Digital Age
In the context of modern firefighting, Galanos noted significant changes brought about by the digital age. “I have just returned from Taiwan and was last year in Hong Kong for promotional tours for the firefighters calendar,” he explained. “Overseas, we are treated like rock stars. Before the digital age, I would have never thought I’d be able to travel the world as a firefighter.”
Advice for Aspiring Firefighters
For those inspired to join the firefighting profession, Galanos offered sage advice: “It’s a long career. Stay fit, stay healthy both physically and mentally. Ask for help if you need it.” His words serve as a reminder that the path to becoming a firefighter is rewarding yet demanding.
Proud of His Heritage
As a dual citizen, Galanos also touched on his Greek heritage: “My father was born in Kavala in the north, which is my favorite place on earth. I try to get back to Greece and Kavala most years.” He shared his experiences from his last trip to Greece in 2023, expressing a deep affection for the country: “I didn’t think it was possible, but Greece keeps getting better and better. There’s no place like it on earth— the food, the beaches, the people; however, it was hot last year… really hot.”
Redefining Success
When asked to define success, Galanos kept it simple: “Success means just to be happy; that’s success. If you’re happy, then that’s all that matters.”
A Calendar That Makes a Difference
Galanos closed with an optimistic note about the 2025 Australian Firefighters Calendar: “It’s the best calendar so far! The money goes to great causes, and it will put a smile on your face.”
