Michael Emenalo close to Newcastle

Bought last month by several investors, including the Saudi Arabian public investment fund, Newcastle continues to evolve. After firing Steve Bruce and appointed Eddie Howe, who enjoys good odds in England, on Monday, Newcastle are now refining the recruitment of their new director of football.

On Monday, The Athletic revealed that Marc Overmars would not ultimately be the lucky winner after having long been considered the priority track for the Magpies. The former Arsenal winger has reportedly decided to stay at Ajax Amsterdam, where he has served as director of football since 2012.

Passed by Monaco from 2017 to 2019

According to Daily Telegraph, Newcastle has now set its sights on Michael Emenalo, former sports director of Chelsea and also of AS Monaco (November 2017-August 2019), where the adventure had gone much less well than in London, with in particular a very disappointing summer transfer window for 2018.

The 56-year-old former Nigerian international is believed to have traveled to Saudi Arabia last week to meet the new owners of the Magpies and is now the big favorite to reclaim this strategic post according to the Daily Telegraph, which adds that Emenalo is a fan of Eddie Howe and would not have failed to let the Saudi leaders know during their interview.
