The professional was previously the sports director at Anfield Road and was the head of the club during a successful period, as the team won both the Champions League and the Premier League.

“Michael is one of the most talented leaders in football and we are very excited to be working together again,” said Mike Gordon, chairman of FSG, which owns Liverpool. – He returns to us with a larger scope of duties than before. When we first approached him, it was clear that this was important to him and that his ambitions matched ours. We want to continuously improve the operation of the club, be it external opportunities or internal developments. There is no better person to carry them out than Michael.”

Edwards also spoke about the announcement.

“I am grateful to the owners for offering me this opportunity and for taking on this task. It was an honor to be approached by them, and I appreciate the perseverance I saw in them, as they have fantastic results in sports and business. It was important for me to be able to return with renewed strength, and for this I had to have new challenges and opportunities waiting for me.”

Edwards first joined the club in 2011 and was appointed sporting director four years later. That is, together with others, he signed Jürgen Klopp and Mohamed Szalah to the team.
