Michael Douglas honored with the Palme d’Or
The American actor Michael Douglas (78) was honored with an honorary Palme d’Or during the opening of the film festival in Cannes on Tuesday.
– This is so important to me, because there are hundreds of festivals around the world, but there is only one Cannes, said Douglas.
In his acceptance speech, he made a point that he is older than the festival, which, including this year’s edition, has been held 76 times since its inception in 1946, writes NTB.
Douglas was accompanied on the red carpet by his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and daughter Carys.
Uma Thurman introduced Douglas on stage and described him as “unique, both as a producer and as an iconic movie star”.

The festival was opened with the film “Jeanne du Barry” in which Johnny Depp makes a comeback in one of the main roles as King Louis the Fifteenth.
On Thursday, the premiere of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”, where 80-year-old Harrison Ford takes on the role of the adventurous archaeologist for the fifth and last time.
During the festival, Martin Scorsese’s new film “Killers of the Flower Moon” will also premiere, 47 years after he presented his masterpiece “Taxi Driver” at the same festival in 1976.
