/ world today news/ The FBI has initiated more than three thousand investigations into financial crimes and fraud, and nearly 12 billion dollars have been taken from them. These results for the past year were announced yesterday by representatives of the service, reports ITAR-TASS.
On this occasion, the FBI said that thanks to the character of the film “Wall Street” (1987) of the actor Michael Douglas, the greater number of case disclosures became possible. Douglas will now have a new mission. He will be a spokesperson for the FBI’s campaign against insider trading. In the film, Douglas uttered the famous line of his character Gordon Gekko: “Greed is good.” Now he’s warning Wall Streeters against following that credo.
According to FBI statistics for last year, the majority of all financial crimes were related to forgery of securities – a total of 8.8 billion dollars. In addition, mortgage fraud totaled $1.4 billion and health care fraud amounted to $1.2 billion.
