“Mice Infestation: A Family’s Unbearable Situation in Harlem”

“The situation is unbearable, unbearable is the situation here.”

Lucier Robles lives on the third floor of an apartment in Harlem with her husband and two-year-old son and dozens of mice that have settled in their home.

“When I got home from work, when I opened my bed, my room, when I found the mouse jumping on my bed, that was the most frustrating of all, because you can’t imagine if that is going to happen to your child,” Robles said.

The Robles family grew up during the pandemic and they thought they had finally found the perfect home to receive their little one, but they haven’t even been able to enjoy the space.

“We had his room well prepared, with the ‘ready’ crib, ready, but he never used his room due to the same problem of mice,” Robles added.

Day by day the rodents seem to reproduce, causing inconvenience and even loss of clothing and furniture to this family that doesn’t know what else to do. They are tired, they say, of filing complaints and not receiving a response from their landlords.

Mice at home.

“The super has come on his own, not because management has called him, but because we call him and we have a good relationship with him. He constantly comes to check what is here, but the management does not call him to notify him to come to solve, far from it, “said Robles.

-Approximately how many times have you called 311 and what happens when you call 311?

“I have called about 5 or 6 times, they have come here to my apartment 2 times regarding the issue of mice, they have fined the building two times, but nothing happens.”

We tried to contact Galil Management, who on their website claim to maintain excellent living environments for tenants, but evidence shows otherwise. After a couple of tries, they finally got back to us but said no one was available to talk to.

The family has had to resort to hundreds of methods with the only hope of living in peace.

“I already showed you the lights, we have traps everywhere, we try to keep the apartment always clean, not to leave garbage anywhere,” Robles said.

Robles no longer wants his family to experience this ordeal.

“My child cannot be here at home in peace, we cannot leave him alone, the situation is definitely unbearable.”
