Hurricane Debby is already wreaking havoc in the state of Florida. Since last Sunday, heavy rain and winds have affected the routine of the “Sunshine State”. Therefore, the airports of Miami and Fort Lauderdale decided to cancel dozens of flights to avoid further damage.
On Sunday, for example, long lines were seen at the customer service counters at Miami International Airport (MIA). This is still happening this Monday, August 5th.
About 107 MIAs were canceled by Sunday evening. Meanwhile, 248 landings and take-offs were delayed due to the bad weather.
On Monday morning, the figure at the MIA was 17 delays and 62 cancellations. Meanwhile, at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), 40 delays and 45 cancellations were reported.
Confirm flight status
A statement from Miami International Airport itself confirmed that “due to Tropical Storm Debby there was an increase in cancellations.
Passengers are advised to confirm their flight status with their airline before arriving at the airport.
However, an American Airlines spokesperson said the airline is “monitoring the path of Tropical Storm Debby due to the large number of cancellations.”
“The company has issued a travel alert that will allow affected customers to rebook travel plans without change fees.”
“Customers can reschedule their trip at aa.com or by calling Reservations at 800-433-7300 in the United States or Canada. “American Airlines will continue to monitor this system with the safety of our customers and crew members in mind,” the statement said.
It is estimated that Debby’s impact on Florida will continue throughout Monday, especially with heavy rain and strong winds.
