Mia and Dion’s failed Eurovision adventure in Liverpool was a topic of discussion for weeks. Out of tune vocals, an absent Duncan: the criticism was harsh. “I take responsibility for certain things that I think could have gone better and that we could have responded to earlier,” Duncan reflects on Radio 538 on Thursday, where he discusses ‘the stories that have circulated’ in an interview.
According to the ‘Arcade’ singer, the fact that Duncan seemed to avoid the press and seemed quite absent anyway was because he had full focus on Mia and Dion behind the scenes. Anyway, ‘Burning Daylight’ did not become the hoped-for Eurovision success. But, Duncan emphasizes: “We enjoyed it so much, including the whole moment.”
That is why he does not rule out that he will again play a role in the Dutch entry in a future Eurovision Song Contest. “Yes, yes. If there is one thing I don’t have, never, it is regret. I believe in Mia, I believe in Dion, I still do. Whatever people say, they are excellent artists.”
Duncan explains that there is ‘an enormous amount of pressure’ on the Eurovision Song Contest. “Let alone if the entire Dutch press at once has an opinion about Mia, about Dion and also about the person they work with, about me. That was very intense. (…) As an artist you can do very little with that .” He describes the headaches it caused both him and his pupils. “Because then you start to think: how do people see me now? How do people see me now? What can I do with this? I think that has ruined them. Me too, I’ll be very honest. It became less and less fun Because so many people wanted to say something, but hadn’t really reached out to the sources. But hey, showbiz.”
The singer, who married his beloved Jordan this summer, also uses the radio interview to put an end to rumors about his drug use. “I am now on hard drugs, I believe I have anorexia, sunken cheeks,” he cynically sums up the gossip. He also points out the videos in which his ‘ticks and pulls’ can be seen. “So everyone is on hard drugs tonight,” he denies the alleged drug use.
Duncan announced after the Eurovision Song Contest that he was ‘mentally exhausted’. However, a little later it was announced that he would be in the new season of Dear Singers can be seen, where he already scores in the first episode with the cover of ‘I Do’ by Douwe Bob:
