The popular Xiaomi Mi Band bracelets have existed since the third generation in variants with an NFC chip to support mobile payments, unfortunately this technology was until recently only available in China with the AliPay payment system. This year, however, Xiaomi has established cooperation with MasterCard and is gradually expanding the ability to pay with a bracelet beyond the Great Wall of China. Russia was first seen in June, with Ukraine and Belarus joining in.
Payment by bracelet in these countries is provided by banking institutions, assuming ownership of the NFC version Mi Band 4 and a payment card from MasterCard. Our own PayPass technology is used, so it is not possible to pay with cards from other issuers. We can only hope that Ukraine and Belarus are only the first swallows and that the payment of Mi Band bracelets will spread westward in Europe.
