In its last issue, France Football made the top 10 of the biggest goalkeeper transfers in Ligue 1. Largely behind Édouard Mendy and his departure to Chelsea against € 20M, we find Benjamin Lecomte in 2nd place. His transfer to the Principality brought in € 13.5m for the MHSC during the 2019 summer transfer window.
“At 29, Benjamin Lecomte has experienced a linear progression. Trained in Niort, the young goalkeeper first signed up with Lorient to launch his career. But in Morbihan, he was helmed by Audard and played only a few matches from 2010 to 2013. It was in L2 that he was going to take off. Loaned to Dijon, he had a full season as number 1. Back in Lorient, he won and played all 38 days of L1. He becomes a sure bet in the championship. In the summer of 2017, Lorient downgraded to L2, the player took the opportunity to move upmarket by joining Montpellier. In Hérault, he is the first pillar of the second best defense of L1 in 2017/2018 and is even called up for the France team. On July 15, 2019, Monaco decided to offer € 13.5M to Montpellier to replace Subasic. ”
In this ranking, he is ahead of Petr Cech and the € 13 million offered by Chelsea to Stade Rennes in 2004.
