Scientists at the Hannover Medical School (MHH) want to investigate how relatives and friends perceived the farewell to terminally ill people during the Corona period.

For the study, interview partners are being sought who have lost a loved one, as the MHH announced on Wednesday. The period covered is from March 2020 to January 2023. The interviewees should be willing to talk about their experiences. According to the MHH, accompanying terminally ill relatives or friends was particularly difficult during the Corona period. Restrictions on visits to hospitals and concerns about contamination and infections made care in the last phase of life more difficult. Saying goodbye and holding funeral ceremonies were also not possible in the usual way.
