MHH inaugurates “DankeMal” on June 5th
Sculpture in the patient garden reminds of people who have donated an organ or tissue / invitation for media representatives
The Hannover Medical School (MHH) has set up an interactive “Thank you” mark in its patient garden. The sculpture is intended to remember people who donated an organ, tissue, bone marrow or blood to help other people. Without these donations, the MHH would not be able to save the lives of many seriously ill people or to improve their quality of life. On June 5th, this year’s organ donation day, the MHH officially inaugurates the sculpture. The “DankeMal” is an initiative of the Clinical Ethics Committee of the MHH and was mainly financed by donations. It was designed and built by the artist Andreas Rimkus from Springe.
We invite all media representatives to attend the inauguration on
– Saturday, June 5, 2021,
– at 11.00 a.m.
– in the patient garden, access via the main entrance (building K6), Carl-Neuberg-Straße 1, 30625 Hanover.
Professor Dr. Frank Lammert, MHH Board Member for Health Care, and Dr. Gerald Neitzke, Chairman of the Clinical Ethics Committee, welcomed the guests. Professor Dr. Axel Haverich, Director of the Clinic for Cardiac, Thoracic, Transplant and Vascular Surgery, Peter Fricke, Chairman of the Federal Association of Organ Transplanted, and Associate Professor Dr. Matthias Kaufmann from the German Organ Transplantation Foundation will speak the words of welcome. The artist Andreas Rimkus will give explanations about the sculpture.
At the “DankeMal” patients, relatives and employees of the MHH have the opportunity to go inside and express their thanks for the donation. The sculpture has a stylized funnel into which visitors can speak. On the back, by touching a golden hand, you can hear sound recordings of people thanking you for receiving an organ or tissue donation.
