The MGVfRAU Knittelfeld invited people to his annual big choir concert “Weltweit Daham 5”. This year our own combo and the St. Marein-Feistritz youth choir were there as guests.
He welcomed a full house Moderator Mag. Andy the representatives of the municipality of Knittelfeld – especially Mr Vice Mayor Ing. Gerald Knauseder and cultural officer GR Mag.a Ingrid Kaltenegger-Adam – as well as the friendly clubs and choirs.
Under the Overall musical direction by choir director Walter Bischof The musical world tour began with “Music, Music, Music” – a catchy song by the Viennese Schrammeln that is better known under the title “Vienna remains Vienna”.
“I praise myself the wine”, a Rhenish hymn to the noble grape juice, was followed by the lively Brazilian Habanera “In the sky, there the stars sparkle”.
For 10 years now, the choir has successfully presented its audience with a varied mix of tradition, folk songs and world hits with music groups, bands or combos. This year, everything was presented “from a single source” for the first time with our own “MGVfRAU Combo”.
The MGVfRAU combo
The MGVfRAU combo with Jan Åkerman (sax, flute, vocals), Andreas Christian Arlitzer (Piano), Walter Bishop (guitar, accordion, vocals), Peter Musenbichler (Bass guitar), Robert Weinhofer (drums) and the saxophonists Kathrin Mossauer and Jacqueline Karner enriched the evening with swinging rhythms.
The first dream destination was the “Isle Of Capri”, a hit that became known worldwide as interpreted by Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby.
After the rumba “Pepito”, choir director Walter Bischof was able to delight the audience as a soloist with the Elvis cuddly number “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, before the next well-known melody followed with “Sway”.
The next island hit and box office hit belonged to the combo with the Elvis song “Blue Hawaii” known from the movie of the same name.
A youthful appearance
It was time Youth choir St. Marein-Feistritz under the direction of Alexandra Schneidler to welcome and listen.
The 25 young singers started their program with “If I Could Fly”, a hit by One Direction. A soulful and surprising “Let It Be” medley with “Gern hobn tuat guat” was heard from the upbeat Poxrucker Sisters hit “Jo voi”.
A great duo
The concert began after the break with a brilliant Jan Åkerman on the sax and an excellent Walter Bischof on the guitar: The MGVfRAU combo intoned “Sail Along Silvry Moon” and the musician duo Åkerman/Bischof were also able to impress with their singing performance.
After a trip to Spain with “The Beautiful Isabella from Castile”, a humorous shellac hit by the great Comedian Harmonists, the choir took the audience to an autumnal Carinthia with “Håt der Herbstwind” and to a wonderful “wine country” with sunny hills and ripening ones Grapes before “The Mill in the Valley” went about its clattering work.
The Magic Flute
Jan Åkerman demonstrated on his recorder what you can get out of a 25 cm long piece of wood with a few holes. “Tico-Tico no Fubá”, a spirited Latin American rhythm by Zequinha de Abreu accompanied by Walter Bischof on guitar, was played with incomparable dexterity.
The youth choir brought the CCR number “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” onto the stage and said goodbye for the time being with Rainhard Fendrich’s “Die, die Wander”.
One last combo number followed before the end of the concert: the “Original Charleston” the swing of the Golden 20s in the hall of the cultural center.
Austropop, ABBA and the Beatles
When Elvis meets Austria, Ludwig Hirsch comes out – or Walter Bischof as the soloist of the Austro-pop classic “Gö du mågst mi”, which also thrilled the numerous listeners.
This was followed by the ABBA hit “I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do”, sung by the women’s choir and with great sax accompaniment, and the Beatles number “Good Day Sunshine”.
The city’s 800th anniversary is celebrated
“We are celebrating our anniversary with the Knittelfelder Polka” with lyrics adapted to the anniversary from “Berlin Melody”, a catchy tune made famous by “Billy Vaughn and His Orchestra”.
A grand finale
The St. Marein youth choir came on stage and joined the singers of the MGVfRAU and the combo at the end of the evening – a final joint performance by all the protagonists of the concert with “Dancing Queen” by ABBA.
The evening ended with a stormy applause and the “Happy Singers’ March” in front of a visibly satisfied and happy audience.
The hard-working hands of the MGVfRAU singers provided the culinary well-being in the evening with lovingly made cakes and rolls. This year, the Kulturhaus Gastro took over the catering at the tables for the first time, ending a decades-long tradition of the club’s own catering.
Thanks to the community of Knittelfeld and the culture house team
A big thank you goes to the municipality of Knittelfeld and the Knittelfeld Cultural Office. The great support at the concert evening from the culture house team made the choir’s work much easier and also helped to make this successful song evening possible.
The MGVfRAU thanked all visitors and supporters of the concert and the club and invited the visitors to its next event, the Christmas concert on December 22nd, 2024 in the Knittelfeld Cemetery Church a.
