(Elbil24): MG has been the most popular “China brand” in this country in recent years, and especially with the ZS EV model, of which, according to Elbilstatistikk.no, over 8,000 are on Norwegian roads. Plenty of space combined with quick range and an attractive price has been a winning recipe there.

For the first time, at least in a very long time, you can now buy a brand new MG in Norway. We are now talking about a Chinese compact SUV, or Crossover. We’ve tested it and give you the pros and cons of buying one. view more

The British-Chinese manufacturer has several models in the Norwegian market. Marvel R is approaching 2,500 registrations, and MG4 has also passed 1,000 registrations after it was launched last autumn.

It was initially only available in a “luxury” version, but was launched earlier this year in a standard version, then with less extra equipment and a price of under NOK 300,000.

Long trot

Now MG in the UK has launched the MG4 Extended range, which then gets a bigger battery and a stronger engine.

The 64 kWh battery in the luxury version is replaced with a 77 kWh one, and with that the range increases from 435 to 520 kilometres. At the same time, the engine output has been increased from 204 to 240 horsepower.

MG states 39 minutes on a 10-80 charge, but we don’t know NAF’s charging test this summer that the MG4 charged faster than the manufacturer stated, with 10-80% in 26 minutes, where MG states 30. Worth noting is that the charging curve up to 60 percent also remained at a fairly constant high level.

Only in the UK for now

Extended range is not available in Norway yet, but we have asked the Norwegian importer and will update when we get an answer.

In the UK, at least, the price premium is 12 percent higher than the model with a 435 km range, reports Swedish Alltomel car, and if we apply the same mark-up here, we end up with NOK 388,000 for the new edition. It’s roughly on the same level as the upgraded Hyundai Kona, which is just around the corner, and which also offers over 50 miles of range for under NOK 400,000.
