Morris Garage (MG) is having fun because its product is stealing attention at the 2024 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). One thing that is in the spotlight is the price of the MG4 EV!
The price of the MG4 EV electric car fell by IDR 260 million after being assembled locally at the Cikarang factory, West Java.
Before being assembled locally, the MG4 EV was a complete imported product or CBU (completely built up) from Thailand. At that time, the selling price was still IDR 699 million for the highest variant. Currently, for the same variant, the price tag is only IDR 433 million with OTR status in Jakarta.
The price, which fell to IDR 200 million, also caught President Jokowi’s attention.
Arief Syarifudin, Marketing & PR Director of MG Motor Indonesia, recounted the conversation when President Jokowi visited the MG booth at IIMS 2024. Last year President Jokowi also visited IIMS and asked MG to localize its products.
“At that time (IIMS 2023) he asked where it was made, I answered, ‘This is Thailand, sir.’ “We called Mr. (Minister of Industry) Agusnya, told him that this MG must be produced here,” said Arief when met by detikcom at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Monday (19/2/2024).
As told by Arief, President Jokowi came to IIMS again. He then appreciated the MG electric car which had been produced locally and was able to reduce the price by hundreds of millions of rupiah.
“Yesterday he (President Jokowi) came back. He was sitting in the MG 4 EV cabin. I said, ‘Do you remember last year asking us for CKD, well this one you are sitting in is already national production.’ (The President said) ‘Wow, the progress is good’,” added Arief.
“Then ask me, what does it cost now? IDR 433 million, sir. Wow, that’s very cheap, he said,” added Arief.
The good news is, even though the price has dropped by IDR 260 million, not a single feature has been cut from the electric vehicle. The car is still exactly the same as the product that was previously imported intact from Thailand.
It is known that the MG4 EV uses an electric motor capable of producing 125 kW of power and 250 Nm of torque. This provision allows the vehicle to accelerate from zero to 100 km per hour in 7.7 seconds.
This silent vehicle is equipped with a Lithium battery which has a capacity of up to 51 kWh. The battery can be used to cover a maximum distance of 425 km, while charging it from 10 to 80 percent only takes 35 minutes.

Kemudian ada ESS (Emergency Stop Signal), 3D Surround View Camera, immobilizer keyless system, Follow Me Home Light, dan TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitor System), DMS (Driver Monitor System), FCW (Front Collision Warning) and AEB Brake Assist, ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), TJA (Traffic Jam Assist), LKA (Lane Keep Assist), serta ELK (Emergency Lane Keeping Assist).
Apart from that, there are also LDW (Lane Departure Warning), LCA (Lane Change Assist), BSD (Blind Spot Detection), RCTA (Rear Cross Traffic Alert), DOW (Door Open Warning), RCW (Rear Collision Warning), RCTB ( Rear Cross Traffic Braking), ISOFIX Child Seat Points, Front, Side, Curtain Airbags and many more.
The two models that have been produced locally are the New ZS EV and MG 4 EV. The MG Motor factory is currently located in Cikarang, West Java. MG ensures that it will focus on EVs.
“Definite, as portofolio product road map. We will indeed focus more on that (electric vehicles). It was visible when line “We have now prepared production,” he said
MG already sells several cars in Indonesia. Starting from the MG 5 GT sedan, MG ZS SUV, MG HS, to the MG 4 and MG ZS EV electric cars, they have been sold in Indonesia. Most recently, MG announced that it would sell the Maxus 9 and ES EV electric cars.
“Has production been completed on the two EVs? What is certain is that there are others. Of the 100 percent, 60 percent of the focus is on EVs,” said Arif.
