MG ZS EV: an electrical renaissance

Often attacked, the Chinese auto industry sometimes allows European brands to continue to live or resuscitate. We obviously think of Volvo bought by Geely, which allowed the Swedish manufacturer to survive, but also MG to resuscitate.

If the English manufacturer has made its reputation on small sports convertibles (MG B for example) and on certain radical versions of the Rover brand, MG today changes everything. No more thermal, make way for the electric and obviously with a particularly sought-after model: an SUV. Its name: ZS EV.

With a length of 4.31 m, it is therefore positioned between urban and compact SUVs. 100% electric, it will therefore compete with the Hyundai Kona electriq and Peugeot e-2008. Aesthetically, this ZS EV displays rather successful lines with false airs of Hyundai on the rear part.

The interior presentation is classic with a large multimedia touch screen in the center of the dashboard. Little information for the moment concerning the practical aspects, we just know that the trunk will offer a capacity of 448 liters, which is interesting for the category.

The ZV EV is powered by an engine with a power of 105 kW (143 hp) and a torque of 353 Nm, powered by a 44.5 kWh battery, allowing it to claim a range of 263 km according to the standard WLTP, which is less than its two direct competitors who display respective ranges of 300 km for the Kona in 39 kWh and 310 km for the e-2008. The 0 to 100 km / h is shot in 8.2s while the maximum speed is limited to 140 km / h. Charging will take 10 hours on a traditional socket. 40 minutes will be enough to charge 80% on an overloader. MG will offer the first 500 customers free installation of the charging station at home or a year of recharging.

Automatic air conditioning and multimedia screen are part of the standard equipment.

To attract customers, MG will count in particular on a particularly complete endowment. Thus, two finishes are on the program: Comfort and Luxury. The first will be equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, navigation with the 8-inch touch screen, assistance in lane keeping, recognition of traffic signs, automatic ignition lights, reversing radar and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The high-end version called “Luxury” gives access to 17-inch rims, heated seats, panoramic roof, blind spot monitoring, rear view camera and lane departure warning.

But the major asset of this SUV will be its price. They range from € 29,990 to € 31,990. Once, the € 6,000 bonus deducted, the entry-level price of € 23,990 is very well placed, especially since customers will benefit from a vehicle having received the maximum rating of 5 stars in crash- Euro NCAP tests and a five-year or 150,000 km warranty.

The marketing of this MG has already started, in particular on the internet. The only French concession is located at 30 avenue de la République in Paris. It will open its doors soon.
