The British-Chinese carmaker MG pulled an ace up its sleeve. It turns the MG4 Electric into a beast with 429 horsepower.
MG, once a British icon, now under the control of Chinese giant SAIC Motor, is causing a stir in the European car market. The commitment to produce low-cost, high-quality cars, led by electric cars, was initially well received, but with the arrival of the MG4 in May this year, the tables turned.
Electric hatchback with a price tag from 780 thousand crowns earned a wave of positive reactions, and not long after that there was speculation about a sharper version that should compete with, for example, the Born model from the Spanish Cupra. Now the manufacturer really confirms the high-performance version labeled XPower.
“We expect to appeal to customers looking for a powerful alternative to traditional noisy hatchbacks. At the same time, the new XPower will retain the generous levels of technology and equipment, as well as the hatchback practicality of the award-winning MG4 range.” explained Guy Pigounakis, Commercial Director of MG Motor UK in a press release.
The historically most powerful car of the automaker, which is built on the modular scalable MSP platform, was equipped with a completely new configuration of two electric motors – the front with a power of 150 kW and the rear with a power of 170 kW. Thanks impressive 320 kW (429 horsepower), this pocket rocket can accelerate to 100 in just 3.8 seconds.
One of the most interesting features of the novelty is the system Dynamic Cornering Control. It includes an electronic differential and intelligent engine management that work together to vector torque between all four wheels. Thanks to this, the car gets maximum traction and excellent control, which the driver will especially appreciate when going through corners.
In addition, the vehicle underwent a significant suspension upgrade, including recalibration of the springs and dampers and the implementation of stiffer anti-roll bars. The overall stiffness of the suspension has been increased by 25%, which will ensure a noticeably sportier ride.
MG4 XPower has impressive stopping power, which allows it to stop from a speed of 100 km/h in a distance of only 33.9 meters. Engineers used ventilated brake discs with a diameter of 345 mm on each wheel for the novelty. It is commendable that the new product will be equipped with tires from the factory Bridgestone Turanza, which increase grip on the road without reducing rolling efficiency. MG’s engineering team also recalibrated the regenerative braking software to allow single-pedal driving in appropriate situations.
The date of introduction to the Czech market and domestic prices are not yet known. In the UK, the MG4 XPower was priced at £36,495, i.e. slightly over a million crowns in conversion. It wouldn’t have to be so different here.
