The English company MG Motor, which has been producing cars since 1924, and since 2007 acquired by the Chinese concern SAIC, began selling its cars in Russia in August 2023 through the private company InTelGo Cars. Then buyers were offered the MG One crossover and the MG 7 Trophy+ liftback, and also planned deliveries of the MG 5, MG 6 models and the Mulan electric car.
Now, another importer of the brand, Mir-Distributor LLC, has announced a large-scale expansion into our market through a dealer network of 30 car dealerships in 18 cities, calling itself the official distributor of the brand since September last year. The company’s plans are more than ambitious. By the end of 2024, it intends to begin officially selling 10 new models in our country. Obtaining OTTS certificates for them is at the final stage, the company’s press release says.
Since the fall, the company has been offering MG 5 sedans to Russians. In the first half of 2024, it should be accompanied by three more models – the MG6 liftback, as well as the MG HS and MG ZS crossovers. Next, official MG dealers should start selling the MG 7 liftback and three crossovers: RX5, RX9 and HS PHEV. Details about three more new products on our market from MG are promised to be announced along with price lists and trim levels closer to the start of sales.
The distributor plans to sell more than 20,000 new MGs in Russia. The importer intends to further expand the dealer network, currently represented in 18 cities. MG car dealerships and service centers already exist in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnoyarsk, Yoshkar-Ola, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Ulyanovsk, Novosibirsk, Penza, Tambov, Smolensk, Surgut, Orenburg, Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny and Sevastopol.
Mir-Distributor states that they have established the supply of necessary spare parts to Russia. Several warehouses with an assortment of components are already operating: a central one in Moscow and two in the Ural Federal District. And soon it is planned to open five more spare parts warehouses in our country.
