ALMOST 100 YEARS – The MG is a historic British company known for its small sports cars, which was founded in 1924 and became part of the British Motor Corporation group 28 years later, a veritable conglomerate of British companies in the automotive world. After changing several names, the last of which was Rover, the group switched to BMW in 2000 and, five years later, MG was spun off from Rover and sold to the Chinese Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC), which in turn was taken over. two years later by the Chinese giant SAIC Motor, the leading Chinese auto manufacturer.
STARTING FROM EHS – Since then, SAIC has given MG some stability and organized its relaunch, which took place one step at a time: first in China, where MG arrived on the market in 2009; and then in the United Kingdom, where the house has been present since 2011 and has taken root, because it manages a style center and has put the historic plant in Longbridge, near Birmingham, back into operation. But SAIC does not intend to stop there and will take the MG to other European countries, including Italy, where deliveries are scheduled from January 2021; the first ten stores will be located in the Center North. The first will come MG EHS Plug-In Hybrid, mid-size crossover made in China, rival of Citroën C5 Aircross and Ford Kuga.
IT IS MODERN – 457 cm long, the MG EHS Plug-In Hybrid it has balanced shapes that do not shine for originality. The dashboard offers a little more refinement, because the dashboard is made up of a 12.3 “screen and there is a multimedia system with a 10.1” cantilevered touch screen. There is no shortage of LED ambient lights, adjustable in 64 colors. Numbers in hand, the trunk of the MG EHS is not large in absolute terms, because it offers 448 liters with the sofa in the position of use, but the capacity is similar to the rivals, in which the components of the hybrid system are usually housed under the trunk floor and reduce its capacity.
52 KM WITH ZERO EMISSIONS – The 2021 edition of the MG EHS Plug-In Hybrid it is powered by the rechargeable hybrid engine, consisting of the 1.5 turbo petrol with 162 HP and the electric motor with 122 HP. Overall, the power is 258 hp and the torque of 370 Nm. The MG EHS can count on a 10-speed transmission connected to a front-wheel drive system. By selecting the electric driving mode, you can travel up to 52 km before discharging the 16.6 kWh batteries charged to 100%. In the best case, therefore, through a 3.7 kW alternating current electrical network, the batteries are completely regenerated in 4.5 hours. Instead, by selecting the hybrid mode, the two engines work in synergy in order to maximize efficiency: and so, the 1.5 reaches almost 50 km / l. The crossover also offers a good level of performance, because it does 0-100 km / h in 6.9 seconds and reaches 190 km / h.
ATTRACTIVE PRICE – The MG EHS Plug-In Hybrid will arrive in Italy from January 2021, with a price tempting attack: approx 34.000 euro, almost 10,000 euros less than rivals with a plug-in system. The customizations will be less extensive than the competition, because the EHS will offer only 4 exterior colors, but on the other hand, few waivers will have to be made in terms of driving aids: as standard or for a fee, automatic braking, the blind spot warning, the system against involuntary lane change and also the adaptive cruise control.
