MFA: 8 Romanians and two Poles in Turkey are brought to Romania by a MApN plane

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that, on Monday evening, eight Romanian citizens – five students and three teachers – and two Poles were boarded on a MApN humanitarian flight organized with the DSU mission in Turkey to be brought from Adana to Romania.

“Continuing the information regarding the assistance and consular protection measures granted to Romanian citizens affected by the earthquakes produced in the Republic of Turkey, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) transmits the following:

During this evening, eight Romanian citizens were successfully boarded for repatriation from Adana Airport, Republic of Turkey, by means of an MApN humanitarian flight organized as part of the support mission of the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Also, two Polish citizens were boarded on board the same aircraft.

The representatives of the Romanian Embassy in Ankara and the mobile consular team are in permanent contact with the competent Romanian and Turkish authorities to coordinate and establish all the details necessary for the safe repatriation of Romanian citizens.

The eight Romanian citizens – five students and three teachers – were in Adana and requested to be repatriated. The Romanian Embassy in Ankara undertook all the necessary steps to take the aircraft on board and transport it safely to Romania. Once they arrive in Romania, IGSU will ensure the pick-up of passengers and their transport to their home towns.

The MFA mentions that, up to this moment, a total of 11 requests for information and consular assistance have been received at the level of the Romanian Embassy in Ankara.

The staff of the Romanian Embassy in Ankara continues the dialogue with the Turkish authorities and is in contact with the Romanian citizens who have requested assistance, the necessary steps being taken to identify ways to repatriate them or to provide another type of consular support, as the case may be.

The MAE reiterates the recommendation addressed to Romanian citizens in the areas affected by the earthquake to obtain information from official sources about the evolution of the situation on the spot and to comply with the instructions of the Turkish authorities.

The MFA reminds that Romanian citizens can request consular assistance at the following phone numbers of the Embassy of Romania in Ankara: +90.312.447.7945 and +90.312.447.7940, the calls being forwarded to the Contact and Support Center for Romanian Citizens Abroad (CCSCRS) and answered by Call Center operators on a permanent basis. At the same time, Romanian citizens also have at their disposal the emergency telephone number of the consular section in Ankara: +90.532.318.1726″, says a press release.

The Romanian Embassy in Ankara was contacted on the diplomatic mission’s emergency phone by a group of Erasmus students, Romanian citizens, who were staying at a hotel in Kahraman Maraş, Turkey, affected by the earthquake. The group of Romanian citizens includes nine students and a coordinating teacher. The group requested consular assistance and repatriation support.

The embassy was notified by family members about the situation of another group of 9 Romanian students within the Erasmus program. They are in Kayseri, an area where, according to available information, the earthquakes did not cause significant material destruction.
