Mexico will provide aid to Cuban migrants in its territory, although there will be conditions

As part of an agreement with the United States, the Mexican government promised to support migrants from Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Haiti seeking asylum in the North American country, however, there will be some conditions for this help.

The government of the Aztec country points out that there will be a maximum limit of 40,000 migrants to attend to, and that these spaces will only be available to foreigners who arrived in Mexico before the end of Title 42.

Similarly, it was stressed that the jobs offered to migrants are temporary, so they will not be able to count on this income indefinitely.

According to Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena, the city of Tapachula, in Chiapas, has already started building a Multi-Service Center, which will also channel refugee requests made by migrants to be transferred to the US.

The official informed the local media The Conference that the objective of this is to be able to make a case-by-case evaluation, in order to be able to recommend to the United States which migrants it should accept as refugees.

The Joe Biden government will initially provide support of 40 million dollars for the construction of the so-called international multi-service space. This is the result of an agreement reached in January during the X Summit of North American Leaders.

The Mexican government will implement the workforce of migrants in different projects that are currently being built, such as the Mayan Train, which will run from the state of Tabasco to the Riviera Maya, in the Yucatan peninsula.

Similarly, the migrants will work on the infrastructure of the interoceanic corridor, which aims to establish a railway line to connect the Gulf of Mexico with the Pacific coast.

In this regard, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, acknowledged an increase in the flow of migrants in the territory, stating that many of these are being provided refuge in shelters around the Aztec country.

“What we are trying to do is that migrants do not travel on these unsafe buses because there are many accidents and we are taking care of that, and protecting themselves with shelters, food,” he said during one of the daily press conferences offered by the president.

According to data from the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), between June and July there was a 26% increase in irregular migration.

Despite this increase, the authorities also recognized that the first six months of the year have seen an 89% decrease in illegal entries of Cuban, Nicaraguan, Haitian and Venezuelan migrants, thanks to the success of the parole humanitarian.
