The organizer of one of the biggest Christmas festivals in southern Mexico was shot dead, as was a second man, in the middle of a dance, local authorities said.
Martin Ramirez Ruiz, the director of the great Christmas celebration of Chilpancingo, the capital of the state of Guerrero, was murdered by executioners who had infiltrated the crowd of dancers and shot him at close range.
Neither the state attorney’s office nor local authorities have named the second victim.
Thousands of people participate every year in the traditional Christmas Eve festival, which has been organized for two centuries and includes a walk through the streets of the city.

The festivities were announced to be canceled after the murder, according to Mexican media.

In November, the bodies of eleven people, who were among 17 people abducted a month earlier, were found dismembered.
The authorities attribute the escalation of violence to the action of a local gang, known as Los Ardigios (s.s. “The Squirrels”), which is mainly involved in extortion, kidnapping and drug trafficking.
