Mexico: Saltillo taxi drivers ask to curb unfair competition from Uber

The Mexican taxi drivers summoned by the Taxi Seguro de Saltillo company, have come to the Government Palace to deliver a letter addressed to the State Executive where they request that an effective control be carried out on transport companies such as InDriver and Uber.

“We ask the Governor to put order, since many transportation companies that work through applications are working without having a record from the Ministry of Communications and Transportation. Why? Because of corruption.

The State Government or the Municipal Government does not give us anything. That these companies pay all the rights, like us ”.

In the same way, in this office, the taxi drivers ask Governor Miguel Ángel Riquelme, to make a warning to Rodolfo Navarro, undersecretary of Transportation in the State, against whom the taxi drivers filed a complaint with the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office for allowing individuals to offer service of public transport without having the requirements established by law.

“Let the Governor know about the corruption that reigns in this Secretariat, the man in charge does nothing, we are paying him a lot in salary and does nothing, that Secretariat is a white elephant, it does not do its job.”

The taxi drivers insisted that while they have to pay taxes to be able to perform the transportation service, Uber drivers engage in unfair competition, since they are not authorized to do so.

“Impunity and corruption are being seen there, it is not possible for us to comply with many requirements, so they are violating the law. Where is our heritage, our business?”

They detailed that there are more than 7,000 taxi drivers who are suffering from unfair competition from the so-called platform drivers.
