Mexico reports 20,715 million dollars in spending by foreign tourists

Mexico City. Mexico received 20,714.55 million dollars in foreign currency income from international tourists from January to August 2024, which represented a growth of 5.33 percent compared to the same period in 2023, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography ( Inegi).

According to the results of the International Traveler Survey published by Inegi this Thursday, the country received 3.45 million international tourists in the first eight months of the year, 6.63 percent more compared to the same period last year.

The Inegi specified that 15.88 million tourists arrived in Mexico by air between January and August of this year, which represented an increase of 2.67 percent more compared to the same period in 2023.

He highlighted that the income of foreign currency by foreign tourists by air from January to August 2024 had an increase of 5.09 percent compared to the amount captured in the same period of 2023, registering 18,714 million dollars.

Meanwhile, internal tourists, tourists residing abroad who visit Mexico, pass the delimitation of the border strip and spend the night, at least one night, within a destination in the country, totaled 29.3 million in the accumulated of the first eight months of the year, an amount that represented an advance of 5.49 percent at an annual rate.

Its spending was 20,714 million dollars in January-August 2024, which represented an advance of 5.33 percent.

Moderate summer

In August, Mexico received 3.45 million international tourists (female travelers residing abroad who spent the night in Mexico), 6.6 percent annually.

Interim tourists totaled 1.81 million, an amount that represented a drop of 2.6 percent at an annual rate. Those who entered by air represented 83.2 percent of internal tourists and registered a reduction of 6.2 percent at an annual rate. 303,478 (16.8 percent) entered by land: a number that increased 20.4 percent, compared to August 2023.

The spending of international tourists reached 1,949.9 million dollars. Of these, 91.3 percent came from internal tourists and 8.7 percent came from border tourists.
