Mexico remains attractive for Tesla: Concamin

Mexico remains attractive for Tesla despite the automaker’s decision to pause construction of its gigafactory in Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon, the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) said.

After Elon Musk announced that the company will wait until after the US presidential election in November, the business sector body commented that the decision stems from the political and economic uncertainty that usually accompanies electoral periods in any country.

“While we regret this delay, it highlights the confidence that Tesla has placed in Mexico as a strategic location for its operations,” he said.

He reiterated that the country offers numerous competitive advantages, such as its privileged geographical location, qualified workforce and a solid legal framework for investment protection.

He considered that the arrival of Tesla represents an opportunity for the development of the automotive industry and clean technologies in the country, contributing to the generation of jobs and the strengthening of the national economy.

He stressed that Nuevo León has met all the requirements that Tesla has requested for its establishment, in addition to being an entity that stands out for its modern infrastructure, a favorable business environment and a highly trained workforce.

Concamin said it will continue to work in partnership with the three levels of government to ensure that Mexico remains an attractive destination for foreign direct investment.

“We reiterate our willingness to support Tesla in this process and we are confident that, once the electoral uncertainty in the United States is over, the plant in Mexico will be successfully completed, benefiting both nations and promoting technological and economic development in the region,” he concluded.
