“I categorically condemn the murder of the president of the Chilpancingo municipal council, Alejandro Arcos Catalanwhich the attorney general’s office confirmed”said Governor Salgado via X.
“His loss plunges the entire community of Guerrero into mourning and fills us with indignation,” added the governor, who belongs to the ruling party.
“They murdered our mayor of Chilpancingo, Alejandro Arcos, and just three days ago, the secretary of the same municipality, Francisco Tapia. It had been less than a week since they had taken office,” said for his part the president of the opposition PRI Alejandro Moreno.
The governor and the PRI president are not talking about the beheading, which news websites such as the ruling Jornada or Reforma, which is critical of the government, have reported.
THE Alejandro Arcos Catalan had won the municipality of Chilpancingo (283,354 inhabitants in 2020, according to official figures) in the June 2 election on the ballot of the opposition PRI-PRD-PAN alliance.
The state of Guerrero has become one of the deadliest for candidates and incumbent elected officials, as well as journalists.
At least six candidates for public office were murdered in the state ahead of the June 2 election.
