According to Norman Wolf, professor at the UNAM Faculty of Accounting and Administration, Bitso, a Mexican cryptocurrency platform, has 5.4 percent of the remittance market in Mexico.
“Although Bitso’s participation in remittances is still low, the growth it has had is more than 400 percent in recent years, so it can grow substantially.
“So it is necessary to have regulation, financial culture around these issues that are so important for Mexican families, for the national economy and to have a financial culture on a daily basis,” Wolf stated.
During the conference ‘What comes with the halving for cryptocurrencies?’, organized by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), David Ochoa, professor at the UNAM Faculty of Economics, for his part, argued that maintaining savings In a cryptocurrency you must have the necessary knowledge that its value can drop substantially.
“In a hypothetical case that the value of cryptocurrencies is zero, there is no one to support that loss; In the United States or Mexico there are those who support the loss of savings in banks; Therefore, with Bitcoin or Ethereum, there is nothing that guarantees savings,” Ochoa highlighted.
He added that everything that is happening with central banks and interest rates, as well as geopolitical problems keep crypto assets with a lot of volatility, which is why he recommended that people who use or invest, mostly the young population in Mexico , they must be documented, informed and make decisions based on the information.
