Residents who received the Covid-19 vaccine in Mexico are still being treated
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEXICO CITY – A doctor with nationality Mexico Those who developed allergies after being injected with the Covid-19 vaccine made by Pfizer and BioNTech are still being treated in hospital and their muscle strength has not fully recovered, local health authorities said Wednesday (6/1).
The 32-year-old internist was given the vaccine on December 30, 2020. A few days later, he had a seizure and was admitted to the IMSS Hospital, Mexico.
An interim diagnosis by the Mexican Ministry of Health showed the doctor had encephalomyelitis, an inflammation of the brain and spinal cord tissue. The ministry said the doctor had a history of allergies.
The director of the IMSS Hospital, Victor Hugo Borja, said the patient had received the treatment well, and he no longer had seizures. The doctor’s muscle tissue strength also began to recover.
“Today, he started to sit down and it is likely that he will recover and be allowed to go home in the next few days,” Borja said during a press conference.
The United States Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) on Wednesday said it was continuing to monitor any potential allergies to the Covid-19 vaccine made by Pfizer Inc and Moderna Inc. The CDC instructs those with a history of serious allergies not to take the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
