Mexico has no plan against subvariants of COVID-19, says epidemiologist

Jalisco Mexico.

Given the increase in respiratory diseases and the sixth wave of COVID-19 infections, the epidemiologist Héctor Raúl Pérez, stressed that Mexico does not have a vaccination plan against subvariants of COVID-19.

He explained that the country has a low stockpile of COVID vaccines for adults and that urgency to acquire second generation vaccines deal with its variants.

“Not at the moment, Mexico actually has a low reserve of biological anticovids for adults, for children it continues to have a good supply and in fact Mexico continues to insist that parents bring their children to be vaccinated against COVID. But for adults there is a dead end that seems dangerous to me and it seems to me that if the pace picks up again it would be worth Mexico to consider buying second generation vaccines ”, stressed out.

The epidemiologist pointed out that vaccines they are a collective protection tool against disease and prevent the spread of more resistant strains. This is why he insisted that the population come and get vaccinated on these December dates.

He rejected the position of the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López Gatell, who said that the flu vaccine is not necessary in young people.

“And these mutations can generate strains that behave more severely, that behave differently in terms of resistance to the immune response that may have been generated by the disease or the vaccination. As for that comment, I don’t agree with it. We understand that when purchasing a healthcare supply, there are more vulnerable groups that need to be protected first, but from that, to the fact that it’s not needed in some groups of the population, it seems to me that it’s not appropriate,” Indian.

In the end, Héctor Raúl Pérez recommended that the authorities be careful of their position, because by minimizing vaccinations, the narrative of groups and people opposed to vaccination is fed.
