Mexico estimates that more than 9.33 million cruise tourists will arrive in the country in 2024, which would represent an increase of 2.4% compared to 2023, the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Mexico reported this Sunday.

In a statement, its owner, Miguel Torruco, indicated that in accordance with expectations “for 2024, the arrival of 3,122 cruise ships is scheduled to arrive at Mexican ports,” to show a recovery of 8% more compared to the 2,891 cruise ships that arrived in 2023, and 5.8% higher than in 2019, prior to the covid-19 pandemic.

He highlighted that by 2024, the expected foreign exchange income from cruise excursionists is 711.9 million dollars, an increase of 7.6% compared to 2023, and exceeding by 13.7% what was registered in 2019, the year in which brought in 626 million dollars.

While the average spending by tourists, he specified, would amount to $80.9, a figure similar to 2023.

Among the expectations reported by Torruco, the port of Cozumel, in the Mexican Caribbean, is scheduled to maintain the first position in the arrival of cruise excursionists nationwide and in the Gulf-Caribbean region, with a participation of 38. 4% of the total.

While in the Pacific region, the port of Ensenada, Baja California (northwest), will lead the arrival of cruise passengers for the region, contributing 8.9% of the total.

He specified that the five ports with the highest estimated number of cruise ship arrivals are Cozumel, with 1,199, this is 38.4% of the total; Mahahual, with 598, 19.2%; Ensenada, with 278, 8.9%; Cabo San Lucas, with 225, 7.2%, and Puerto Vallarta, with 167, this is 5.3% of the total.

He recalled that together these ports represent 79% of the total supply of arrivals.

At the beginning of January, Tourism of Mexico indicated that during the first 11 months of 2023, tourism income in Mexico increased by 9.8% compared to the same period in 2022, with a total of 27,413 million dollars. EFE
