Mexico City, The government of Mexico condemned Israel’s attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) stressed the Israeli attacks “constitute flagrant violations of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.”
The agency headed by Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente supported, on behalf of our country, the mandate of the United Nations in the protection of civilians.
He also reiterated the urgent call for an immediate ceasefire on the border between Lebanon and Israel and for strict respect by all parties of international law and international humanitarian law.
The Israel Defense Forces fired on UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon early last Thursday morning. The UNIFIL mission operates along the “Blue Line” of separation between the two countries, mandated by the Security Council.
Two peacekeepers were injured after gunfire hit a UNIFIL observation tower located at the mission’s headquarters in Al-Naqurah, southern Lebanon.
