Mexico City taxi drivers are fed up and threaten to shut down the city on October 12

Ehe National Taxi Movement (MNT) have threatened to mobilize Mexico City on Monday, October 12 from 5:00 am.

To do this, they have summoned 15,000 taxis from the suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico and the 16 mayors.

The last time the MNT demonstrated was on February 19.

Ignacio Rodríguez, spokesman for the MNT, indicated that the main demand of taxi drivers for the Government of Mexico and the governments of the capital and the State of Mexico is that they end the illegal transport service in private cars through applications, which they asserted is irregular because it violates different laws in the country and they are already fed up with these vehicles roaming the streets at ease.

In a press conference held at the Monument to the Revolution, the MNT requested that the Ministry of the Interior be the mediator between the taxi drivers and the governments of Mexico City and the State of Mexico.

Faced with the crisis that they said the union is going through, the taxi drivers also asked that they be waived taxes, fees and fines such as the inspection and renewals of documents such as the driver’s license.

Rodríguez asserted that it is not a threat to get a simple work table with the authorities and said that the demonstration is confirmed because they have been fighting Uber, Cabify and Didi for six years, who offer the transport service without having a concession, or pay the rights and obligations that public transportation service concessionaires have.

He indicated that the plan is for taxi drivers to be grouped at the Angel of Independence at 10:00 am.
