The Head of Government, Martí Batres Guadarrama, led the delivery-reception of eight fixed mammograms by the Public Charity Heritage Administration to the Government of Mexico City, in order to expand the breast cancer detection capacity of the capital’s Health Secretariat (SEDESA), for the benefit of the population of the Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Gustavo A. Madero, Iztapalapa, Miguel Hidalgo and Tlalpan Mayors.
With an investment of 38 million 697 thousand pesos, the new mammograms will allow 40,800 additional free screening studies to be carried out, for timely care of this disease.

“This year, 2024, we will also work on converting the La Pastora Hospital into a breast and cervical cancer prevention and care hospital. (…) And we are making decisions and agreeing on tasks to strengthen the entire Health System in Mexico City: supply of medicine, review of works in hospitals, hospital equipment, we have a plan to have seven tomographs, which are another type of new devices, the new tomographs have already begun to arrive and then, we also review other tasks with the Ministry of Health, here from the Government of Mexico City,” he noted.
For his part, the general director of the Public Charity Administration, Adrián Benítez Ruiz, reiterated that the commitment of the Government of Mexico to the health of the city’s inhabitants is reflected in the acquisition of medical equipment that allows enhancing the capabilities of detection and care of health centers and expand their coverage, in favor of the most vulnerable population.
He explained that the mammograms will be distributed in seven Health Centers: “Dr. Manuel Escontria”; “Mixcoac”; “Dr. Rafael Carrillo”; “Gabriel Garzón Cossa”; “José Castro Villagrana”; “Mexico Spain I”; “Salvador Allende y Gossens”, which has a Specialty Clinic; and the Comprehensive Care Center for Women.
“The federal Ministry of Health, the National Center for Gender Equity and Reproductive Health, the National Institute of Cancerology, together with Public Charity, promoted and developed the project called ‘National diagnosis of mammography equipment requirements for screening and diagnosis of breast cancer for users without eligibility’. In this sense, the diagnosis raises the need and opportunity to strengthen the units that carry out screening activities, complementary evaluation and diagnostic confirmation of breast cancer, with the replacement of mammography systems. This, in order to increase effective coverage and guarantee diagnostic evaluation and confirmation in the country,” he explained.
Finally, the Secretary of Health, Oliva López Arellano, celebrated the collaboration with the Government of Mexico and highlighted that the timely detection of breast cancer is essential to guarantee effective treatment, which is why she invited the population over 40 years of age to attend. to health centers and Wellness Fairs to receive free mammograms
“All our services are free, screening is universal and with this we have greater possibilities of detecting in a timely manner, of intervening early against the disease. The incorporation of these eight mammograms allows us to expand our detection network.
