Yesterday the National Public Health Day began in Mexico City, in which 93 thousand doses of vaccines will be applied to minors, such as hepatitis B, rotavirus, pneumococcus, tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus and hexavalent.
The capital’s Secretary of Health, Oliva López Arellano, pointed out that the purpose is to reach 95 percent coverage in all biologics in the universal scheme, after the lag that occurred during the covid-19 pandemic due, in some cases, to the withdrawal that there was of the population, and in others, due to the lack of availability, as occurred with DPT, which protects against diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough.
“At this moment we have coverage above 98 percent in vaccinations against tuberculosis; 94.7 percent, hepatitis B; 93.9, pneumococcus; 90.5, hexavalent; 85.7, rotavirus, and 75.9, DPT.
The vaccination day will be in the 232 clinical units of the Ministry of Health, the Well-being Fairs and the medical units of the Mexican Institutes of Social Security and Security and Social Services of State Workers until July 21.
On the other hand, Oliva López confirmed that in the first week of October the application of the vaccine against covid-19 and influenza to the population at greatest risk will begin, for which there is ample capacity in hospital facilities, without the need for a macrocenter .
He said that last year 3.1 million anti-influenza doses were administered in the sector, a figure that is expected to be applied simultaneously this year for both diseases.
He commented that we will have to wait to find out which biological will be used, but he did not rule out that it is the Patria and the Cuban Abdala vaccine, of which 334,000 doses have been applied to adults over 18 years of age.
