Buenos Aires, Nov 15 (Sputnik).- Mexico’s National Agri-Food Service for Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) authorized the entry of boneless and aged beef from Argentina on Monday.
“Argentine beef manages to enter the Mexican market,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
After eight years of negotiations, Senasica has authorized 22 processing plants to import cuts of Argentine beef, after conducting an audit that certified the health and safety standards required by its Argentine counterpart, the National Health and Quality Service Agribusiness (Senasa).
The two agencies prepare the animal health requirements that must appear on the certificates for shipments.
The South American nation thus accesses a market that has been closed for 20 years, according to the Farnesina.
The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, and his Mexican counterpart, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, promised in February 2021 to move forward on this possibility.
Under negotiations started in 2014, Senasica communicated to the Argentine embassy in Mexico that it would also allow the entry of Argentine white corn both for human consumption and for other uses, in addition to the already authorized yellow corn.
The trade balance with Mexico recorded a trade deficit of 471 million dollars between January and September of this year, according to official data.
Exports reached $833 million, while imports were $1,305 million, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec). (Sputnik)
