Mexico Approves Moderna and Pfizer/Biontech Vaccines for Marketing: What You Need to Know

In Mexico, in October, the Cofepris new molecules committee evaluated the technical and scientific information of the vaccine against SARS-CoV2 and issued a favorable opinion for those developed by Moderna and Pfizer/Biontech. In recent days, it finally issued the Health Registry for both vaccines, which puts an end to emergency use, allowing their marketing. Without doubt, good news.

Although Covid-19 is no longer a health emergency, it remains a public health issue. That is why it is important to maintain the effort to make a safe and effective vaccine option available to people.

Especially in this autumn-winter season when the SARS-COV 2 virus (along with influenza, pneumococcus, RSV, etc.) still represents a danger, especially for vulnerable groups, such as older adults and those living with a weakened immune system due to chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, lung diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cancer or HIV. Furthermore, high mobility, the overcrowding of some urban centers and the increasing prevalence of chronic degenerative diseases are a breeding ground for the appearance of new outbreaks of contagion.

With the advance of the cold we will also see the increase in patients with respiratory diseases, which makes it essential to have information and awareness campaigns to understand that the conversation is not over.

That’s why at Expansión we prepared two special episodes of Health Café, dedicated to the winter season with an expert guest: Dr. Yéssika Moreno, Medical Director for Latin America at Pfizer. In the first episode we talk about prevention measures and explain why it is necessary to use updated vaccines for the new variants of the virus, such as those that have just been approved and that will surely be available in the coming weeks in the country. In the second part of this special we will talk about diagnosis and treatment of winter diseases.
